LO2.2: Upload rushes

Our short film is about a boy called Mac gradually learning he has contracted an STI after having sex with a girl at a party. Our rushes meet the conventions of short films as we used a comedy theme to entertain our audience and ensure that they enjoy the film. We set our film in a majority of areas but mainly in a college as the characters are all aged 17 attending post-16 education. We also filmed in a pub while playing pool as that is a game that lads play and a pub is a place where a lot of men would be. Since our short film is about a boy who gets an STI, we needed to film in a doctors office for the scene where the test results comeback positive so the film looks realistic and feels like you are watching something that could potentially happen. We have 1 main character 2 characters that are friends with the main the character and 1 additional character in our short film. The main character is called Mac and the film is based around him as he has sex with a girl at a party but day by day finds symptoms of an STI which he tells his friends and eventually the school clinic. Mac's two friends, Jack and Euan, are the people who while giving Mac advice on what to do, also make fun of him for the situation he is in. Finally, the additional character is the school clinic doctor who tells Mac his STI test results come back positive. The mood of our film starts quite jolly as Mac is bragging to his friends about how he got with a girl at a party. However, Mac mood slowly changes when he starts seeing signs of an STI especially after Jack told him the girl he had sex with has got an STI. This links to Todorov's idea of a conventional structure where at the beginning, everything is normal until there is a problem usually building but there is a solution at the end of it all. In our short film, the solution was Mac getting his issue checked to find out the truth. Obviously, Mac will not be happy with the results but at least he knows where he stands and what to do. This also links to Levi-Strauss' theory of binary opposition as Mac's mood throughout the film slowly changes therefore opposing his original feelings at the start.
